Johan Tetzel was in this medieval town and was a preacher who sold indulgences for absolution of sins, but really to help the Archbishop of Mainz pay off his debts. This is a coffer of his.
Emperor Karl VI built this church to celebrate the Archbishop of Milan, St. Charles Borromeo, for the help he gave plague sufferers during the 1713 epidemic. It is huge and richly embellished and painted. We were able to get all the way to the top to see the frescoes on the ceiling, about 243 feet above the floor! I did not look down.
